Yoga
Yoga originated thousands of years ago and is a practical way to deal with the stresses and strains of modern life.
Attending a regular yoga class helps maintain good general health by improving the efficiency of the body. It tones the muscles, loosens up the joints, helps reduce stiffness and improves overall physical strength and stamina. The benefits are not just physical. The ultimate aim of yoga is to unite the body and mind through certain practices and movements.
Yoga is a series of poses, positions and moves essentially developing balance, flexibility, control and breathing, with the ability to integrate mind, body and breath.
There are many benefits no matter your age or fitness. The yoga elements of postures, breathing and meditation make this potential possible because they are so adaptable to the individual.

I am a qualified Iyengar Yoga Teacher to Junior Intermediate Level 1 and have been teaching since 2003. In 2006, I attended classes at the Iyengar Yoga Institute in Pune, India, where I studied with BKS Iyengar and members of the Iyengar family. I currently teach a wide range of yoga classes in Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch. I regularly attend workshops with senior teachers to update my skills and I currently hold the Iyengar Yoga Junior Intermediate Level 3 Certificate.
I qualified in Anatomy, Physiology and Massage in 1998, Aromatherapy in 1999 and in Indian Head Massage in 2001. I regularly update my skills through Continued Professional Development training. This has included Aromatherapy for the Elderly, Ayurvedic Face & Scalp Massage and Aromatherapy Facials. I am also a qualified Reiki Level 2 Practitioner.
I have professional membership of the Iyengar Yoga Association (IYA UK), Register of Exercise Professionals (REPS) and the International Federation of Professional Aromatherapists (IFPA). I am also Membership Secretary of the Dorset and Hampshire Iyengar Yoga Institute (DHIYI).
I aspire to the yamas and niyamas of yoga and aim to live according to yoga philosophy. My joy is teaching people yoga, helping them discover the benefits of yoga and seeing the small improvements or ‘awakenings’ in everyday life.
Prior to teaching yoga, I taught aerobic exercise, modern jive dancing and have a wide experience in teaching and performing. I am also a trainer in inter-personal skills, presentation skills and communications. My practical experience and knowledge of exercise, dance and aromatherapy massage enables me to take a holistic approach to teaching and clients. My work in the fields of teaching, inter-personal skills training and in management, has offered me a full and varied career in a service industry.
